Nutbush City Limits Summer Volleyball League Rules

Eligibility
•No team shall be permitted to play unless the roster has been completed & the league fee has been paid
prior to the established deadlines.
•A team consists of six players but can play with as few as four. Regardless of the number of players, at
least two players on the court must be female.
•Teams can have no more that ten people on one roster.
•Players may only play for one team per night.
•All players in the league must be at least 21 years old.

The Game
•The games will be played to 21 points, where a team must win by two points. All games will be rally
scoring.
•You will play three games each night, & you will turn your score in to the bartender each night. Your score
is the number of games you win, for example 0, 1, 2, 3. Once you record your score, your team will receive a
free bud light, coors light, or miller light pitcher.
•A strict 60-minute time limit exists for all matches. Rally scoring to 15 points will begin at the 45-minute
mark to finish matches nearing the time limit.

Serve/Return
•For each match, a volley will determine who serves first.
•You may serve from any position behind the backline boundary.
•The server MUST announce the score out loud before serving the ball. He/she should always announce his/
her score first.
•On a serve, the receiving team is prohibited to attack or block the ball.
•Net serves are allowed (if the ball hits the net on a serve & still makes it over the net, the ball is still in play.)

Playing the Game
•During a volley, if a team uses three hits to return the ball at least one hit must be from a female.
•A player may not step on or over the “line” under the net.
•A player may not hit the ball twice in succession.
•Players may NOT touch the net with any part of their bodies. Each player is responsible for calling his/her
own nets. BE HONEST!!
•Players must call their own double hits (when a ball touches more than one part of your body.)
•All players are eligible to attack the ball. There will be no designated “back row” players.
•A ball that touches any part of the line is good.
•NO KICKING THE BALL! If you accidentally or intentionally kick the ball over during a volley,
replay the point.

Playing the Ball
•The ball must be allowed to break the plane of the net. A player may not go over the net to contact to ball on
a block or a hit.
•No carries or two-handed spiking is allowed.

Interference
•Branches or stray balls from the other court will be considered interference if they extremely disrupt a play.
The play will then be replayed.

Rainouts
•Rainouts will not be called until game time, so be here & be ready to play. You can call the bar for
rainout information, but games are usually only cancelled if it is lightning.
•Games in progress will start over unless a team has at least ten points and is winning by at least three points.
•If a night is cancelled due to lightning or heavy rain, the games will not be made up even if the earlier
games were able to play.

Things to Remember
•The ball is not to be kicked or whipped over the net.
•Disputes should be resolved between the teams. When in doubt, just replay the point.
•A 15-minute time limit will be given to allow the teams time to show up. If a team passes the limit, the
match will be considered forfeit.
•Report all scores to the bartender on duty. It is the responsibility of the captain to report all scores,
EVERY WEEK. If a score is not reported, it will be marked down as a 0 for the night.
•ABSOLUTELY NO CARRY INS! If you get caught bringing in your own alcohol, or drinking from a
cooler in your trunk, or anything of the sort, you will be talked to & your team may be kicked out of the
league.
•There is a hose towards the back of the building to wash feet off with after your match is finished. Please
remember to SHUT OFF THE WATER after you are finished using it.
•When entering the bar before, during, or after play, shoes & shirts must be worn please and thank you.
•Most importantly, HAVE FUN!
